Jorge explains the process of scarifying seeds. Scarifying is the process of rasping the outer shell of a seed to create a more permeable surface for water and outside gases. Jorge uses a 120 grit piece of sandpaper to rasp two seeds before dropping them into a glass of water. A second pair of non-rasped seeds is also dropped into a separate glass of water and is used as a control for the experiment. Which pair of seeds do you think will sprout the first taproot? We’ll find out in the next video. In the meantime, leave your comments below along with reasons why you think your choice will be the first to sprout.
