Cannabis Education Experiment Day 7: The Entourage Effect
.
.
Google “An entourage effect: inactive endogenous fatty acid” and the PDF of the referenced study will pop up!
.
.
THC by itself works on various systems beyond the Endocannabinoid System. So it essentially is an “entourage” molecule on its own, as these systems work synergistically. However, the second you include various cannabinoids (through oral consumption) or cannabinoids and terpenes (through inhalation) the effects of THC can be drastically modulated.
.
.
What’s important to consider is the fact that combining random plant compounds, doesn’t mean that those effects will necessarily be positive. Examples: There are some people that cannot handle terpenes like limonene or terpinolene with THC, due to anxiety and paranoia, while others cannot handle terpenes like myrcene or linalool with THC, due to the sedative effects.
.
.
There are certain disease states where THC by itself, at the right dose, can be incredibly effective, whereas others consuming THC by itself can exacerbate their symptoms, which is why CBD is needed. At the same time, there are also diseases where THC and CBD together could also exacerbate symptoms.
.
.
This is why it’s so important to understand that what may work for one, may not work for another. Lab tests can provide you with a guide of what’s actually in the plant, so you can get an idea of the cannabinoid and terpene profiles that work best for you. Keep in mind that the entourage effect of cannabinoids and terpenes through inhalation, is TOTALLY different than the entourage effect of cannabinoids and terpenes through oral/digestion!
